OMERS sponsors and stakeholders have told us they want to see improvements in our communications to you – leaders and representatives in OMERS sponsor and stakeholder organizations. In response to that request, today we are introducing Outreach – an e-newsletter intended to keep you up to date on developments at OMERS that are of interest to you.
One of our goals this year is to significantly improve our communications and engagement channels with leaders / representatives of our sponsor and stakeholder organizations. While we have an effective communication program in place for our members, we can and will do better at improving on that front with our sponsor and stakeholder organizations.
To that end, in July we conducted a survey followed by a feedback session in September to discuss how we might make improvements. Among other things, you said you want to feel better informed about the current issues facing the OMERS pension plan so you can do a better job of explaining them to your own constituents. You also told us that the preferred channel to keep you informed is an electronic newsletter.
In response, we’re pleased to launch this inaugural edition of OUTREACH. We plan to issue the e-newsletter four times per year. Each edition will contain timely OMERS news, discussions on the broader pension landscape and answers to your most frequently asked questions. While this newsletter is targeted to you as leaders/representatives of your organization, we’ll continue to communicate to our broader audiences via our member and employer newsletters, our spring and fall information meetings, annual report, the website and various other initiatives.
If there are particular topics you’d like us to cover in future editions or if there are other people within your organization you’d like us to add to the distribution list, please let us know.
Successful governance rests on collaboration and good communication. We look forward to hearing from you on your impressions of Outreach, the topics you’d like to see covered in future issues and any other comments you’d like to share with us. Please share your views by contacting us.
Fall Information Meeting
On October 22, almost 200 people joined us in person and via webcast at our 2013 Fall Information Meeting, the highest turnout yet. We started the half-day meeting with a session on the current economic outlook followed by a session on the special plan change process. Mid-morning we convened the formal meeting and reported on the process for proposed plan changes, the funding deficit, our progress in addressing each of the recommendations made by Tony Dean in the OMERS Governance Review, and we formally introduced George Cooke, our new OAC board chair.
